Hello everybody,
Hereby our last post of this trip. Rutger and I already started working again and the contrast with India and Nepal can’t be bigger.
Our last days we spend in Bhaktapur, this is a small city nearby Kathmandu. We decided to go here because Jan and Ilka were staying here and they recommended us the place.
After the bus ride from Pokhara to Bhaktapur we arrived in the afternoon at the guesthouse were Jan and Ilka were staying. In this guesthouse we also met there friends from Germany.
That day we didn’t do a lot, in the evening we walked around with everyone. It was just a nice walk to sit once in a while and talk with the people. During the day a lot of tourist from Kathmandu come to Bhaktapur but in the evening they al go away and the few people that are staying in the village are just hanging around and talking with the locals.
To go in Bhaktapur you need to pay an entrée fee. The village looks like an open air museum, really nice and everywhere you look there are small temples.
The second day we went to Kathmandu. Our guesthouse owner (Mugoenda) showed us around in the city and showed us the way to go everywhere for free. In Kathmandu was a Hindi festival with dancing and several performances on the streets. Mugoenda could tell us a lot about the rituals and traditions without letting us pay for it :). In the evening we hired a few motor bikes for the day after to go around and see something in the Kathmandu valley.
The day on the bikes we started early, we, Jan and Ilka, Rutger and I. In the beginning we started with a plan to go to different places. But after the first place we decided to go for just a drive. During the day we saw some amazing sceneries and the driving was just good fun. In the evening we had to bring back the bikes to Kathmandu so Rutger, Jan and I drove around in a city with more than a million inhabitants during rush hour. So, after bringing back the bikes we first went to a small bar for a beer.
The last full day in Nepal Rutger wasn’t feeling so well so we decided to stay at the guesthouse. I only went for a small walk around Bhaktapur and walked up some mountains. The rest of the day was just a lazy day, we went to a small roof top bar were we had some beers and in the evening we went for dinner with Jan and Ilka what was a great end of the trip.
The flight home was very good and at the airport in Belgium we even had our bags:). During the beginning of the flight we passed the Himalayan peaks for 30 minutes so that was very cool to see (Thanks Dimi for the tip to sit on the right side of the plane).
