Maya sites, volcanos and paradise!

Buenos dias, tardes o noche!

At the moment of writing this we a
re in El Remate, it is a small village close to Tikal were we are staying in an eco lodge with a view over a beautiful lake. But first things first and start with where I stopped the last time.

After leaving Mexico we went to Panajachel in Guatemala, this is a beautiful situated village along e the shore of Lago Atitlan. From here we could see several volcanoes on the other side of the lake. The plan was to do a tour on the river but due to the weather, it was rainy the complete afternoon, we decided to make this the relaxing day. What we did was absolutely nothing; we relaxed in hammocks and read a book!
The day after we left to Antigua, this is a village mentioned on the Unesco list and a great stop to go to the Pacaya volcano. We decided to stay here 2 nights but due to the elections in Guatemala we could only stay one night. The next day we went up the volcano, it’s an active volcano which erupted the last time a year and 4 months ago. While walking up we could see the way the magma has gone down. After arriving back we just had time enough to go for food and after that jump in the minivan to Honduras.

The minivan is a small van to transport 15 people except the driver. The driver we had decided to make a D-tour in Guatemala City to pick up some extra passengers. This plan extended the trip with 2 extra hours of travelling and instead with 15 we were with 19 in the van!

In the minivan to Honduras we met a Canadian couple with we shared a dorm room. We went to Honduras to go to Copan, one of the most beautiful Mayan sites we have seen this trip. For this day we hired a guide so at least we got some more information about the Mayans and their traditions.

Due to the elections and the
schedule we are following we had to leave again back to Guatemala to go to Semuc Champey. This place is known As a paradise! So a paradise was a place to visit we thought. Semuc is amazing and we planned to stay here for the weekend, just to relax and enjoy the nature, but….. Again the elections changed the plans we had. Due to the elections there was no transport on Sunday and Monday so we had to leave the day after already!
The day after we left to El Remate where we are at the moment. Tikal is a very famous Mayan site which is one of the sites we both really wanted to see. It’s a site in the jungle where you can see a lot of different animals and the ruins still surrounded by nature. The animals we have seen where monkeys, spiders, tucan and many more. The site itself was very nice and the view from one of the temples over the “roof”of the jungle with jumping monkeys around us was priceless ;-).

Tomorrow we will leave to Belize, here we are going to Caye Caulker where we planned to just relax, drink, dive and try to kite surf. As well we are planning to stay here more than one day so that we don’t have to get up every day before 6.30!
