At the moment we are in San Cristobal de las Casas. I can write some nice things about the weather or how nice it is to be here while we know everybody is working, but I’m not going there ;-).
I’ll start where I finished the last time.
After Cancun we went to Merida. Before going there we stopped at Chichén Itza, this is the most famous Maya site in the Yucatan region, as well one of the 7 wonders of the world. While walking around here Rutger and I found out a lot of people from Cancun and Playa del Carmen come here for a daytrip. We both said that it was not as impressive as, for example the Taj Mahal, maybe we are just spoiled. But still it was nice there to walk around and for a travel day stop at a Maya site is not what you do every day.
After arriving in Merida we decided to take the night bus the next day to Palenque and ust spend night here. The hostel we had in Merida was very nice with a swimming pool but in the city itself was not much to do so we rented a car, and not a regular car, no we rented a VW Beetle :-D!
We had the car for a day; the bus was leaving at 10 in the evening, so we decided to go to some Maya temples outside of the city. First stop was Uxmal, in my opinion it was much nicer than Chichén Itza. The best of Uxmal was that we were almost alone at the site, for the rest check the pictures I’ll try to upload as soon as possible.
Next stop was a sinkhole, which is a collapsed cave; we could get a tour for a couple of hour’s bur Herbie was waiting so we just entered the beginning of the cave. Afterwards we went to a small Maya site where we did not stop because we wanted to go to the sea, but it all went slightly different. We decided to take some short cuts instead of the main road which would have cost us an extra hour. While driving around we past some small villages and some very bad roads. While driving on a stretch of 25km hell broke loose, we were driving in a swamp and the road was on the same level! The rain was coming down like they were throwing bathtubs over the car, the road was flooded in minutes. The last 15km we did in 2 hours, once in a while getting out of the car to check if he water was not too deep to pass. Some parts the water was so high fish was crossing the road from one side of the swamp to the other side! But we and Herbie survived (just)!
After bringing back the car we got the night bus to Palenque, in Palenque we had an eco lodge in the jungle with monkeys above the cabin. Again with a pool! The ruins of Palenque were nearby so we went there soon after arriving. In the afternoon we relaxed at the pool while the monkeys were fighting in the trees. The next day we booked a tour to 2 waterfalls and with a final stop in San Cristobal de las Casas, a nice town high in the mountains. For us it’s mainly the last stop before going to Guatemala. During the trip we met a few people from Argentina and a Swiss girl. We spend most of the time with time here and we had some nice Spanish lessons.
For now buenos noche a todo, nosotros fue para comer y un bebida!
Hasta Luego!

Mam:
liefs
